BRL-CAD

APPLESEED integration: Create and render a sphere in appleseed and BRL-CAD (task #1 of 5)

PRIORITY PROJECT

BRL-CAD is looking to integrate with appleseed for rendering. This task gets you set up and familiarized with appleseed rendering.

For this set of tasks, you'll need to download and install the latest appleseed. Go through their tutorial at https://appleseedhq.net/docs/tutorials/gettingstarted.html

Then, create a sphere in BRL-CAD and get it imported and rendering in appleseed. You can create a sphere by running mged, running "make sph sph" on the mged command line of a new database, then running g-obj on the .g to convert it to an .obj file which appleseed can import directly (though you'll have to figure out how).

See the appleseedhq website for help, ask for help on their Slack discussion channel. Install the Slack chat application (or use the browser interface) and join appleseed's #help and #dev channels to discuss your progress. Request an invite at https://slackin-pohcdrcgcs.now.sh

SUBMIT your Appleseed sphere project file(s)

SUBMIT a screenshot of it rendered in Appleseed

SUBMIT a screenshot of it rendered in BRL-CAD

As a PRIORITY PROJECT, successfully completing this set of tasks is highly valuable to the BRL-CAD community. It means these tasks may be a little harder or take more time, and will be considered accordingly during final rankings.
