An introduction to Turtle Blocks

Turtle Blocks is an activity with a Logo-inspired graphical "turtle" that draws colorful art based on snap-together visual programming elements. Its "low floor" provides an easy entry point for beginners. It also has "high ceiling" programming, graphics, mathematics, and Computer Science features which will challenge adventurous students.

The goal of this task is to familiarize yourself with Turtle Blocks by creating some turtle "art". To inspire you, we have a collection of designs.

  1. Choose a pattern from Turtle Art patterns ***
  2. implement it in Turtle Blocks.
  3. Save the results to the Planet
  4. Upload a link to your project on the Planet and a screen shot.

Refer to the Turtle Art Guide for background on how to use Turtle Art.

The emphasis of the project is to identify common elements in your selected pattern and using "action blocks" to capture those elements.

*** Important note: In order to avoid redundancy, you must get pre-approval for your pattern choice. After you have claimed this task, upload a link to the pattern. A mentor will sign off on your choice or let you know that someone else has already chosen that pattern. Also note that you are welcome to choose a pattern from other source besides Pinterest, but still need to get a mentor to sign off on your choice.

To access the Planet to upload your project, click on the "globe" button on the upper right. Click that and then click on the orange cloud icon with the up arrow. From the Planet you can get a link to share here.
