Split the API messages in a MediaWiki extension into a separate file (III)
Every MediaWiki extension has a list of translatable strings, also known as "messages". Some of these strings are technical. It will be more efficient to translate them if they are stored in a separate file.
This task is not about translating messages, but about managing the messages' source.
You must read https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T189982 for more explanations, instructions, examples.
There are many extensions to convert. Your task is converting one MediaWiki extension. That requires you to write two patches.
Acceptance Criteria:
- Pick an extension to work on from the checklist in the Phabricator task description. Edit the task and write your name next to the extension you work on. You will need to have / register a [Phabricator account] (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Phabricator/Help#Creating_your_account) for this.
- Submit a patch for the extension's Gerrit repository, which splits api* messages from the existing
en.json
andqqq.json
files to newen.json
andqqq.json
files. - Submit another patch for the translatewiki Gerrit repository, which creates the new api group and an aggregate group for the whole extension.
- See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gerrit/Tutorial for how to set up Git and Gerrit.
The two patches will be reviewed, merged, deployed, and tested by a translatewiki staff member. Final acceptance means that the api messages appear in a separate group on https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Translate and don't appear in the extension's interface group.
