CCExtractor Development

Google Assistant: Design a good flow to get started on GCI

Introduction

CCExtractor is a tool to extract subtitles/closed captions from video streams. It's used by universities for research purposes, as well by regular users that want to extract captions from various formats.

The task

This is a design task. It means that you need to come up with the correct flow, not actually implement it (that's a different task, and you are encouraged to do both, but you will still get points by just doing this one).

Design a good interaction for a student wanting to get started with GCI. You could ask the student what he likes to do and suggest appropriate tasks. For example if he likes drawing you could suggest design tasks.

When doing the design keep in mind that your goal is to figure out what the user wants to do and gather the information to help him/her. Some times the user will tell you straight away, for example "I'm a 14 year old from Nigeria". If they don't, ask for information without being to pushy. Not sharing information is not a big problem, but then you should just issue some general remarks instead of specific recommendations.

You will see, when doing your basic research, that Assistant does a lot for you as long as your design is solid. Expect to spend 2 evenings or something like that to come up with something good.
