Identify, research, and document open-source team communication & collaboration tools (at least five)

The goal of this task is to identify, research, and document open-source team communication and collaboration software tools. An example of one such tool is Slack): http://slack.com. We like Slack but sadly, Slack is proprietary software and we are seeking your help in investigating more useful open-source alternatives. Also see https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T154002 for more information and better understanding.

Here is what we would like you to do:

  1. Research and identify a list of at least five open-source communication and collaboration tools.
  2. Create an account on https://meta.wikimedia.org.
  3. Create a page with the title "Research on open source team communication tools" on https://meta.wikimedia.org/.
  4. Use the above wiki page for all the documentation work. Add a short introduction what the wiki page is about and link to the Wikimedia Phabricator task. Document each tool along with its description, and features that it offers. Include relevant links wherever necessary, and embed a screenshot for visual clarity (please see the guidelines on screenshots and licenses).
  5. Also, recommend which tool in your research did you find most useful for the Wikimedia Foundation for their Outreach programs such as Google Code-In to communicate with students and why?
