Participate in a weekly MetaBrainz meeting

Like many organizations, MetaBrainz uses IRC for real-time communication. This is a great way to ask questions, and is how our weekly meeting is conducted.

Before claiming this task, make sure you have done one or more GCI tasks already. Students claiming this task as their first task will get unassigned.

Goal

For this task, you will be joining the MetaBrainz meeting that happens (almost) every Monday at 20:00 UTC. You'll get to see how teams coordinate their efforts, exchange ideas, and get feedback, and you'll get familiar with IRC (if you aren't already).

Steps for Task Completion

  • Install an IRC client on your computer (– or use a web client if unable to install a proper client).
  • Register your nickname: https://freenode.net/kb/answer/registration
  • Join the #metabrainz (and optionally #musicbrainz) channel.
  • Participate in the meeting by
    • Being in the #metabrainz channel on a Monday at 20:00 UTC (this may be in the middle of the night in your timezone—if so, it's better to sleep and work on another task than to do this one)
    • Telling Freso that would like to give a review
    • When you're called out, tell us about what tasks you've worked on so far and what you want to work on next. You can also touch on what your goals are for your GCI participation.
    • Stick around for the rest of the meeting. If you have questions about what is being discussed, ask. If you have a comment on something, state it.
