There doesn't seem to be a better open source program for subtitles that ours, but what about commercial software? The job is to look at our “competitors” and find out what key features they have that we are missing

Important. Our competitors would do the same thing we do, maybe better. This means they have software that is able to get a recording of a TV channel and extract the subtitles from it.

Programs that are used for any kind of processing to already existing subtitle file (such as the ones generated by CCExtractor) are not competitors. They just use what we do for the next step in the chain.
