Run a Usability Test [FirstAide]

Prerequisite:

  • ONE of the FirstAide Apps running on your machine. (iOS, Android, or Web)

Simple Definition:

  • Usability testing is a technique used to evaluate a product by testing it on users. It gives direct input on how real users use the system.

Steps:

  • Research usability tests. Pay attention to "Best Practices" and "Example Usability Test Session."
  • Record the user from start to finish.
  • Place the device in front of a test user.
  • Ask the user to complete 2 of the following tasks:
    1. "Set up your circle of trust."
    2. "Send a message to your Circle of Trust."
    3. "Look for the procedure to take after being sexually assaulted."
    4. "Find your closest Peace Corps point of contact."
  • Write down notes. (Optional. You may need both hands to record.)

Keep in Mind:

Do not lead the user! Remain neutral! You are there to listen and watch. Videos that do not follow directions and lead users will not be accepted.

Required:

As you work on this task, you should join and remain in #gci-general or #firstaide on Systers Opensource Slack to get help, feedback, and guidance from mentors and other developers.
