Ubuntu

Install and test the Python 3-compatible version of Lubuntu Software Center

Lubuntu Software Center (LSC) was originally created as a way to provide a solution to the needs of Lubuntu to users to filter the list of available applications down to the low resource options: https://launchpad.net/lubuntu-software-center

With Ubuntu's change to Python 3, a compatible version needed to be created. That solution is now available in a ppa: https://code.launchpad.net/~lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-software-center/python3

  1. install Lubuntu (use a virtual machine, where applicable)
  2. install LSC from the ppa
  3. use LSC to browse for, install, and remove packages
    • especially see if you can find non-Lubuntu packages, like, say, compiz!
  4. report bugs to the Launchpad page
  5. briefly report on your experiences in a comment
